Marshmallow update starts rolling out to Moto X Style and Moto X (2nd Gen)
HIGHLIGHTS

This makes the Moto X Style and Moto X (2nd Gen) the first devices to get Android Marshmallow, after Google's Nexus devices.

The Moto X Style and Moto X (2nd Gen) smartphones have started receiving the Android Marshmallow update. David Schuster, Senior Director, Software Product Management, Motorola, announced the updates on Google+. Schuster mentioned that while the Moto X Style will receive the update in both India and Brazil, only the Brazilian version of the Moto X (2nd Gen) has started getting the update right now. Schuster wrote, “Full deployment will proceed in stages over the next few weeks. It is not yet available for pull, you will receive a notification on your phone when you are able to update your phone. We have also started the approval process for 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen) and expect to push it out in the next few weeks."

This continues Motorola’s tradition of providing fast updates to its devices. In fact, the company becomes the first OEM to deliver the Marshmallow update to its devices after Google’s Nexus devices. The promise of early updates has often been pushed as one of the main reasons for buying Motorola’s smartphones, and the company has till date not failed to live up to it, at least as far as its flagship devices are concerned. In fact, the Moto X (2nd Gen) was one of the first devices to receive the Lollipop update last year.

While the Moto X (2nd Gen) was launched last year, the Moto X Style is merely a few months into the market. The devices are powered by Snapdragon 801 and Snapdragon 808 SoCs respectively. In addition, the Moto X Style has a 5.7 inch QHD display, along with 2GB of RAM and a 20.7MP camera.

Motorola has also promised the Marshmallow update for its Moto G (3rd Gen) and we won’t be surprised if the Moto G (2nd Gen) gets it too. The first generation Moto E, Moto G and Moto X though, would most likely not get the update, although the company hasn’t confirmed the same officially.
