Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core CPU to power upcoming LG phone
Mobile chip manufacturer Qualcomm has announced it will be supplying the Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core chipset for an upcoming LG phone, expected to launch in Korea in September, ahead of a global rollout. LG however, has not shared any further details about the device.
The Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 chipset is coupled with the MDM9x15 baseband LTE chipset, a combination which according to Qualcomm, will deliver “a superior mobile experience for voice, web browsing, games, user interfaces and other graphics applications.” The APQ8064 chipset features four asynchronous CPU cores which supposedly be ‘independently controlled for maximum efficiency.’
The LG phone will probably feature the Adreno 320 quad-core GPU, supposedly 15 times faster than the original Adreno, providing console-quality graphics.
So far, only three quad-core smartphones from major manufacturers are present in the global market – Samsung Galaxy S III, HTC One X, and LG’s own Optimus 4X HD. The 4X HD fared well in our tests, and is a solid performer (read our review).
Though the S III has a the clear lead in terms of performance, the LG Optimus 4X HD is closely followed by the HTC One X. The 4X HD is also cheaper than the One X in India, and comes with expandable storage, which the One X lacks.
