Samsung may turn to Chinese display makers for flagship phones to keep prices in check

HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung may use Chinese display suppliers to control rising smartphone prices, including for the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.

The strategy builds on existing partnerships, already used in budget and mid-range Galaxy phones.

Multiple suppliers could help limit price hikes without affecting Samsung’s focus on display quality.

Samsung may turn to Chinese display makers for flagship phones to keep prices in check

Samsung has recently increased the prices of their mid-range devices under the Galaxy series and is also expected to do the same for the flagship models. The price hike is seen as a result of the ongoing shortage of the chips in the global market. The smartphone brands have been trying for a long time to figure out a way to counter this and keep the smartphone prices in check. Reports suggest that Samsung may have found a perfect way to do so, as the brand is reportedly planning to turn to the Chinese suppliers for the display of its upcoming smartphones, which will also include the upcoming S26 flagship series.

The shift is not happening overnight, as it’s built on the long-term trust that Samsung has gained with the Chinese suppliers, as they already source a significant share of components for its entry-level and budget smartphones from them. Phones like the Galaxy A06 5G and Galaxy A16 5G rely on parts made by several China-based companies. This shows that Samsung has long been willing to work with external partners where it makes business sense.

What’s new is that the company is now willing to expand that trust in the high-end devices as well. Reports suggest the upcoming Galaxy A57 could use display panels from TCL CSOT, alongside screens made by Samsung itself. If true, this would mark a broader use of mixed suppliers even in mid-range models.

There are also rumours that Samsung might look at BOE for the supply of screens for their Galaxy S26 models. But for now, this is still in question, especially for the top-of-the-line models. Samsung’s flagship lineup has a direct connection to their reputation for screens because of the extreme care that Samsung takes in this area.

Experts say that the act does not mean the withdrawal of Samsung’s focus on its displays. Rather, this reflects the cost management approach the company is adopting. Having multiple suppliers enables the firm to minimise production costs, which can arise as a result of either geopolitics or supply chain problems.

If Samsung is able to keep the costs under control because of effective sourcing, the pace at which the prices for the next smartphones will go up may decrease. Although the model name in the smartphone will remain the same, such decisions tend to affect the price at which the consumers pay for the product.
