OpenAI’s new models and tools

The AI startup also introduced Sora 2, accessible via API. This upgraded version of OpenAI’s video generation model adds realistic soundscapes and synchronized audio, allowing developers to create rich multimedia content.

Expanding the developer ecosystem

Sam Altman and team have also introduced new developer tools that aim to simplify making AI-powered experiences. The new announcements included AgentKit, which helps developers design and deploy AI agents in minutes, and App SDK, allowing apps like Canva and Spotify to integrate directly with ChatGPT. The company also introduced ChatKit which enables app developers to embed ChatGPT-powered chat interfaces into their own products.

New partnerships

OpenAI has also announced a multi-year partnership with AMD to expand compute infrastructure. Altman and OpenAI President Greg Brockman admitted that compute capacity remains a critical bottleneck despite large-scale buildouts planned for the coming years.

Jony Ive

In a rare appearance, former Apple design chief Jony Ive joined Altman to discuss their ongoing collaboration on AI-driven hardware. Ive stated that the focus is on making technology that helps people feel happier, more peaceful, and less disconnected. He also stated that the pace of AI innovation was extraordinary, noting that the rapid progress often makes it difficult to stay focused.

ChatGPT active user base

During the OpenAI DevDay, Sam Altman stated that the company has 800 million weekly users and 4 million developers on its platform. The API processes an estimated 8 billion tokens per minute, reflecting the platform’s massive scale.

The market responded sharply during DevDay, with stocks of several companies mentioned by Altman, including HubSpot, Figma, and Coursera, jumping shortly after being showcased as OpenAI integration partners.

Lastly, Sam Altman has also stated OpenAI’s main focus is expansion and innovation over profitability hinting that focus is on growth over money.
