OpenAI’s ChatGPT is once again down for thousands of users globally. Users are unable to access ChatGPT for day-to-day tasks because the shared prompt contains an error. According to Downdetector, a website tracking online service status, hundreds of users have filed reports in the last hour indicating issues with the AI chatbot.

The outage seems to have affected a large number of users globally, including in India, where over 499 users have reported problems. According to the website tracking platform, the outage peaked in the late night, with over 2,600 reports in the United States. ChatGPT received more than 82% of the complaints, followed by the website (15%) and the application (2%).

Notably, 99% of the complaints were specific to ChatGPT, questioning OpenAI’s ability to handle the growing demand for generative AI services. Many users have also taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express their frustration while taking funny jibes on the outage. OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has posted that it is investigating the “root cause” of the ChatGPT outage. However, any concrete details are yet to come.

Meanwhile, OpenAI has recently rolled out parental controls for ChatGPT amid the ongoing controversy over artificial intelligence affecting teenagers’ mental health.

In a blog post on Tuesday, the California-based AI company said that parents will now be able to link their ChatGPT accounts with those of their children, disable certain features, including memory and chat history, and control how the chatbot’s responses to queries via “age-appropriate model behaviour rules”. Additionally, they will also be notified when their teen shows signs of distress.
