Apple reportedly working on lightweight Vision Pro Air, may launch in 2026
HIGHLIGHTS

Vision Air could debut between late 2025 and mid-2026.

It is expected to feature an aluminum outer shell to reduce weight.

There is also a Mac-tethered version in development for apps needing ultra-low latency.

Apple is reportedly developing a more affordable and lightweight version of its mixed reality headset, tentatively named the Vision Pro Air. Alongside this, the tech giant is also said to be working on a Mac-tethered variant of the original Vision Pro. A new report sheds light on the expected launch timeline for the Vision Air with possible features.

For the unversed, Apple Vision Pro was first announced at the company’s annual developer conference, WWDC 2023. The mixed reality headset is powered by visionOS and features a spatial user interface. The device costs $3,499 (approximately Rs. 3 lakh) in select markets. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Vision Pro Air.

Apple Vision Air launch timeline (expected)

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his most recent Power On newsletter, Apple may be working on two new versions of Vision Pro: a lighter Vision Air and a Mac-tethered model for apps that require more responsiveness. He stated that the Apple Vision Air could debut by the end of this year or in the first half of 2026.

He added that, despite the Vision Pro’s poor sales, the company is working on two new variants. However, it is unclear whether the Vision Air will be a cheaper alternative or a replacement for the current Vision Pro. But in his earlier report, he pointed out that it will be difficult for Apple to make a less expensive reality headset due to the increased tariff rates.

He also stated that Apple is developing a reality headset with an ultra-low latency system that can connect to Mac or high-end enterprise apps. Furthermore, reports suggest that the Apple Vision Air could have an aluminium outer body and titanium internal components to reduce weight.

In contrast, the current Apple Vision Pro weighs 650g without the battery pack. The wearable features Spatial Audio, dynamic head tracking, and H2‑to‑H2 ultra-low-latency connectivity with AirPods Pro 2, as well as AirPods 4.
