Hisense opens first manufacturing facility in India at Sri City, to start local AC production from February 2026

Hisense has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, marking a shift from an import-led model to local production. The plant has been commissioned through a joint venture with Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited. Commercial production is set to begin in February 2026.

The move aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and also signals the brand’s intent to strengthen its supply chain and scale its operations in one of its key growth markets.

A 10-acre facility with phased expansion plans

The new facility is located within Epack Durable’s industrial park at Sri City and spans a 10-acre campus. It has been developed with an investment exceeding USD 30 million.

Phase 1 of the plant is dedicated to room air conditioners. It will manufacture Hisense’s global and flagship AC portfolio for India, including the F-Series, Eco Series, Intelli Perla Series, and the upcoming Intelli Pro Series. The installed annual capacity for this phase stands at 0.75 million units.

Once fully operational, the facility will account for 100 percent of Hisense’s room air conditioner output in India. For buyers, this could translate into better stock availability during peak summer demand and potentially sharper pricing as local manufacturing reduces import dependence.

Phase 2, scheduled for Q2 FY27, will add washing machines across top-load and front-load categories. And Phase 3, planned for Q3 FY27, will introduce LED television manufacturing. This phased approach indicates that Hisense is building a multi-category production base rather than a single-product plant.

Employment and export potential

The facility currently employs around 500 people. Over the next 12 to 24 months, the workforce is expected to expand to nearly 1,500 professionals across supply chain, finance, administration, and manufacturing roles. The plant will cater to both domestic and export markets.

Sri City has emerged as a major integrated manufacturing SEZ, hosting companies across the electronics and automotive sectors. For Hisense, this location offers logistical advantages for exports while supporting faster domestic distribution. Local production can also help improve supply-chain logistics.

Pankaj Rana, CEO, Hisense India, said the facility represents a pivotal step in the company’s evolution in India. He noted that local production would help the brand strengthen control over quality, cost, and supply chains, while enabling better customisation for Indian consumers.

Ajay Singhania, Managing Director and CEO at Epack Durable, said the facility reflects the collaboration between Hisense’s technology capabilities and Epack Durable’s manufacturing expertise, and adheres to global manufacturing standards.

For consumers, local manufacturing may lead to: improved availability during high-demand seasons, potentially more competitive pricing, and faster after-sales support due to local supply-chain integration. Let’s see.
