Official demo runs in Mumbai to showcase technical and security compliance.
Commercial rollout expected by early 2026 after DoT and IN-SPACe approvals.
Expected cost: Rs 30,000 setup + Rs 3,300/month; speeds between 25–225 Mbps.
Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture will conduct official demo runs in Mumbai on October 30 and 31, showcasing its compliance with technical and security conditions under India’s Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) authorization. According to a PTI report, the demonstrations will be held in front of law enforcement agencies and are based on a provisional spectrum allocated to the company. The tests will help authorities evaluate the satellite broadband service’s performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. Once cleared, Starlink could start rolling out its internet connectivity in India’s remote and underserved regions.
SurveyThe company also plans to set up nine gateway earth stations in cities like Mumbai, Noida, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh, and Lucknow. The company has also sought approval for 600 Gbps capacity through its Gen 1 satellite constellation.
Earlier this month, Starlink India’s Market Access Director, Parnil Urdhwareshe, said the company is “fully focused on offering Indians a secure, compliant, and high-quality broadband experience.” Here’s everything we know so far.
Starlink India release date, expected speeds, and availability
Starlink still needs final approvals from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe). Reports suggest these clearances may arrive by late 2025, paving the way for a commercial launch by early 2026.
To maintain fair market conditions, the Indian government has reportedly capped Starlink’s user base at 20 lakh accounts nationwide. Once live, Starlink is expected to offer download speeds ranging between 25 Mbps and 225 Mbps.
