BSNL announces Rs 249 and Rs 429 recharge plans with 1GB data per day
HIGHLIGHTS

BSNL is countering Reliance Jio with its own plans offering unlimited voice calling and 1GB data per day. The company is also planning to launch 4G this year.

BSNL, the state-owned telecom operator, has introduced new data offers to tackle Reliance Jio's 4G data benefits. The company has announced a new prepaid recharge coupon of Rs 249 that offers 1GB data per day, unlimited free local and STD calls with a validity of 28 days. The free voice calls, however, are restricted to BSNL's own network and data speed will be capped at 3G speeds.

BSNL says the new special tariff voucher is a limited period offer and will be available only till October 25, 2017. The company has also introduced Rs 429 recharge pack that offers unlimited voice calling and data benefit of 1GB per day for 90 days to its prepaid subscribers. The recharge offer counters Jio's Rs 399 data plan that offers unlimited vocie calls and 1GB data per day for 84 days.

Jio also offers unlimited local and STD calls and 2GB data for 28 days with recharge of Rs 149. The new tariff plans from BSNL and other telecom operators like Airtel and Idea are a countermeasure aimed to pull customers away from Jio's growing base.

Since its launch last year, Jio claims to have added 130 million subscribers and has triggered a pricing war among competitors. The company has also tied up with mobile manufacturers to offer additional 4G data benefits. BSNL is also reportedly planning to launch 4G network by the end of this year.
