Xiaomi teases Dual 4G VoLTE support for Redmi 6 series ahead of Sept 5 India launch
Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and the Redmi 6 Pro in India at an event on September 5.
Xiaomi is hosting a launch event in India on September 5, where it’s expected to announce the Redmi 6 series of smartphones. The company could launch three new smartphones, the Redmi 6, Redmi 6A and the Redmi 6 Pro, at the event and ahead of the launch, it has teased that the upcoming devices will come with Dual VoLTE capabilities. The information was revealed via one of the company’s recent tweets, which is embedded below, with the attached image hinting at the same. To recall, Xiaomi has already launched the Redmi 6 series of handsets in China. Although the company has not confirmed whether the same smartphones will be unveiled in India, all of its teasers till now hint at the same.

In the company’s launch invite and also in the new teaser image, there are silhouettes of three smartphones in the background that hint at the launch of two phones with the standard 18:9 display design and one with a notch. The designs are in-line the Redmi 6 series of smartphones that were launched in China as the Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6A sport thick bezels on the top and bottom, while the Redmi 6 Pro sports a notch. The Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A smartphone were launched in China in the first half of June, while the Redmi 6 Pro was announced a month later in the smartphone manufacturers’ home country.
Redmi 6, Price 6A and Redmi 6 Pro expected pricing
In China, the Redmi 6 comes in a 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant and a 4GB RAM/64GB storage version, priced at RMB 799 (Rs 8,410 approx) and RMB 999 (Rs 10,517 approx), respectively. The smartphone is expected to be priced slightly lesser in India.
The Redmi 6A was launched in a single 2GB RAM version with 16GB of internal storage and it’s priced at RMB 599 (Rs 6,306 approx). It is also expected to be priced lower, around Rs 5,500 in India.
The Redmi 6 Pro is the more powerful variant of the three and comes in 3GB RAM/32GB storage, which is priced at CNY 999 (Rs 10,400 approx). It also comes in a 4GB RAM model with options of 32GB and 64GB of storage priced at CNY 1,199 (Rs 12,500 approx) and CNY 1,299 (Rs 13,600 approx), respectively. The Redmi 6 Pro is expected to be priced the same in India.
Redmi 6 Specifications
Both, the Redmi 6 and the Redmi 6A smartphones feature an 18:9 display aspect ratio. The Redmi 6 features a 5.45-inch HD+ display with an 80.5% screen-to-body ratio and is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 octa-core SoC. It comes with AI-based face unlock feature and in China, it is equipped with the company’s XiaoAI voice assistant. However, the company’s voice assistant will most likely not feature in the Indian version of the phone. In terms of optics, the Redmi 6 features a 12MP + 5MP dual-rear camera setup with PDAF support . On the front is a 5MP sensor that supports Xiaomi’s AI Portrait mode.
Redmi 6A Specifications
The Redmi 6A shares the same design and screen size as the Redmi 6, but it runs on the MediaTek Helio A22 SoC. It sports a 13MP single rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF support. There is a 5MP sensor on the front with an f/2.2 aperture lens, which also supports Face Unlock. The Redmi 6A is backed by a 3000mAh battery.
Redmi 6 Pro Specifications
The Redmi 6 Pro features a 5.84-inch display with a 19:9 display aspect ratio and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. It comes equipped with a dual rear camera setup, where one is a 12MP primary sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and 1.25-micron pixels, while the other one is a 5MP depth sensing unit. It also supports PDAF and comes with an LED flash. On the front is a 5MP secondary sensor that can capture images in an ‘AI’ Portrait mode and HDR. The handset supports face unlock and the 3.5mm headphone jack is still present. It is backed by a 4000mAh battery.
