Xiaomi releases its list of phones getting next major Android update

The Xiaomi Redmi 5, Redmi 5A, Mi Note 2, Mi Note 3, and some more phones are slated to receive their next major Android update.

Xiaomi has released a list of its devices that will be receiving Android Pie or Android Oreo update in Q4 this year. A beta version of the OS’ will be first rolled out for the phones that are listed and hopefully, they will receive the stable version by the end of this year or by early 2019. Coming to the list, Xiaomi is planning to push the Android Oreo update to the Mi MIX, Mi MIX 2, Mi Note 2, Mi Note 3, Redmi 5, Redmi 5A, Redmi 5 Plus, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, the Mi 6, Mi 8 SE, MI 8 Youth Edition, MI 8 screen fingerprint variant, and some more other models. The Mi Mix 2S, Mi 8, Mi 8 transparent exploration edition will be receiving the Android 9 Pie update. 

It should be noted that some of the phones listed above already run on their next respective Android versions. Xiaomi says that its phones that have already received two major updates will not be receiving any more upgrades. Additionally, very old models will also be excluded from the update and unfortunately, Xiaomi has not announced the phones that will not be will not be included in the update cycle. The recently launched Mi Mix 3 runs on MIUI 10 that is based on Android 9 Pie. 

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC and comes with the options to select from either 6GB, 8GB or 10GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The Mi Mix 3 features a 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED HDR display and the company says it has a 93.4 percent screen-to-body ratio. There’s no external memory card support and no 3.5mm audio jack either. It runs on MIUI 10 and is backed by a 3200 mAh battery, which supports both, fast wired charging via a Type-C port and 10W wireless charging. 

In terms of optics, the Mi Mix 3 comes equipped with dual cameras on both the front and the rear. On the front is a 24 MP Sony IMX576 sensor with 1.8μm pixel size, which is coupled with a 2 MP sensor. The 24MP sensor on the front also supports pixel binning, which is combining four pixels into one for better images in low light conditions.
