Xiaomi’s Redmi 6 Pro is making its debut in India today. We pit it against its closest competitor under the 10k price tag, the Realme 2, to figure out which one has more power under the hood.
If you are looking for a smartphone under the 10k price point, then you are spoilt for choice. However, if you are looking to pick up something that launched recently in India, then you may want to take a look at the Realme 2 or the Redmi 6 Pro. The Redmi 6 Pro was first announced in June and is now making its way to India. To help ease your purchase decision, we have compared the specifications, features andf price of the two devices.

Display
Kicking things off with the display, both the displays bring with them the most useless addition to a smartphone since sliced bread – the notch. Apart from that, the Realme 2 has a slightly larger 6.2-inch display when compared to the Redmi 6 Pros 5.84-inch display. The resolution of the Redmi 6 Pros display is higher than that of the Realme 2 which means that you will see a higher pixel density on the Redmi 6 Pro. A higher pixel density is always favourable as it ensures the content looks crisp. This is usually noticed when seeing images, watching movies and playing games on a smartphone. Since both the displays are IPS LCD displays, we can expect them to sport good viewing angles. We will however, reserve our final judgement for our review.
Performance
When it comes to the hardware under the hood, both the smartphones have 3GB and 4GB RAM variants along with 32GB and 64GB storage variants. The kicker is the fact that the Realme 2 runs on the Snapdragon 450 SoC whereas the Redmi 6 Pro runs on the Snapdragon 625 SoC. On paper both the SoC’s may seem at par but run through it with a fine toothcomb and you will realize that that the 625 has some superiority up its sleeves. The Snapdragon 625 and the Snapdragon 450 both have Octa-core A53 CPU. However, the Snapdragon 625 can go up to 2.0GHz whereas the Snapdragon 450 has a maximum clock speed of 1.8GHz. Both the SoC have the Adreno 506 GPU. Even though the Snapdragon 625 has a small performance lead when compared to the 450, in the long run it could make quite a bit of difference.
Optics
When it comes to the camera’s powering these two smartphones both of them sport the trendy dual camera setup at the back. The Realme 2 has a 13MP+2MP setup at the back whereas the Redmi 6 Pro has the 12MP+5MP setup. In the past we have known Xiaomi to put some pretty good cameras on budget smartphones and how it holds up against the Realme 2 is something we will tell you when we have put both the smartphones through their paces.
When it comes to the selfie camera, the Realme 2 has an 8MP camera whereas the Redmi 6 Pro has a 5MP camera. Even though on paper it looks like the Realme 2 has packed in a higher MP count, real world performance may not necessarily reflect the same. Think of it this way – the sensor in a camera is like a room and the megapixel is the number of people you can fit in that room. There is an optimal number after which the room will start getting cramped and people inside will get uncomfortable. Similarly, it is the optimal marriage of the sensor size and the megapixel count which ultimately determines the quality of photos taken. Battery
What good is a smartphone if it dies on you by lunchtime? In this regard, the Realme 2 has a 4230mAh battery and the Redmi 6 Pro has a 4000mah battery. On paper this distinction may not seem like a lot but look a little deeper and you will see how they are quite different. The biggest battery guzzler on a smartphone is the display. The higher the pixel density of the display, the higher the battery consumption to illuminate that display. There is also the question of brightness which we will test in our review. The Realme 2’s 4230mAh battery needs to power a 720p display whereas the Redmi 6 Pro’s 4000mAh battery needs to power a 1080p display. On paper this means that a higher battery capacity with a lower resolution display to power gives the Realme 2 an advantage. However, in real world usage we must keep the processor, UI and other optimizations in mind which is why we will comment on real world performance when we review the two devices.
Price
The Redmi 6 Pro price stands at Rs 10,999 for the 3GB RAM, 32GB storage variant and Rs 12,999 for the 4GB RAM, 64GB storage option. In comparison, the Realme 2 comes in at Rs 8,990 for the 3GB RAM/32GB internal storage variant and Rs 10,990 for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage model.

Both the devices are targeting the sub 10k market with their phones. Xiaomi is the Goliath of the budget phone segment with a long-standing legacy and devices to back up its claim as the best budget phone maker in India.
