Apple now makes around 25% of iPhones in India, production up by 53%: Report

For years, Apple has relied on China for manufacturing its iPhones, but this trend has changed somewhat in recent years. Apple has invested heavily in setting up manufacturing facilities in India to make iPhones in the country. Reportedly, this was because the company wanted to avoid the heavy tariffs that the USA imposed on China. Well, it looks like there has been a big rise in Indian manufacturing, as a recent Bloomberg report states that nearly one-quarter of iPhones are manufactured in the country.

Apple iPhone manufacturing rises in India

As per the Bloomberg report, the manufacturing in India has seen a big rise compared to the previous years. They even shared the numbers, suggesting that there was almost a 53% rise in production. Apple makes close to 230 million iPhones globally in one year, and with the rise, India is now making close to 25% of iPhones in the world, the report states.

The report said, ‘The company assembled about 55 million iPhones in India in 2025, up from 36 million a year earlier, people familiar with the matter said, asking not to be named because the numbers aren’t public. Apple makes about 220 million to 230 million iPhones a year globally, with India’s share of the total increasing rapidly.’

Reason for the rise

Bloomberg suggested that this rise in Indian manufacturing is mainly because of the rapid expansion that is being seen in the country. The government of India has set up production-linked incentives aimed at turning India into the global factory. Because of this, there has been a lot of focus on adding subsidies. Even though India does not have the same facilities as China in terms of the supply chain and smooth logistics. But due to the subsidies, it helps make up some of the structural cost disadvantages that manufacturers face. 

Currently, the subsidies will only be in effect till 31 March. Many companies are discussing the next rounds of incentives with the Indian government to grow the export rate even further. As of now, companies like the Foxconn Technology Group, Tata Electronics and Pegatron Corp. are responsible for local sales and export of iPhone models.
