Xiaomi is expected to launch its entry-level Redmi 4A smartphone in India today. The smartphone features 5-inch display and sports a unibody metal design

Xiaomi Redmi 4A, the newest entry level smartphone from the Chinese technology company is likely to be launched in India today. Xiaomi has sent media invite for an event, where the company will announce its next big launch for the Indian market. The company has already confirmed that it's next Redmi smartphone will be an Amazon exclusive.

Xiaomi’s business may be dwindling in its home market but the company has been gaining strength in India. The company surpassed sales of over $1 billion last year and its VP Manu Jain plans to announce a major milestone in the company’s India journey. Xiaomi announced the Redmi 4A and it's better-specced sibling Redmi 4 in China back in November. With Redmi 4A, Xiaomi could aim to dethrone home-grown smartphone makers like Micromax, Lava and Karbonn in the entry-level segment.

To recall, Redmi 4A features a 5-inch HD IPS display and sports a metal unibody design similar to company’s Redmi 3S series. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. The smartphone sports a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The Redmi 4A lacks a fingerprint sensor and uses microUSB port for charging.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4A runs MIUI 8.0 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the company should rollout Nougat update soon after the launch. The smartphone houses a 3120mAh battery and supports fast charging. The handset was announced in gold, rose gold and dark grey colour variants.

Xiaomi recently launched Redmi Note 4 in India and the company has sold 1 million units in just 45 days. Redmi 4A was announced at 499 Yuan (around Rs 5,000) and at that price, Xiaomi could add another best-selling smartphone to its ever-growing Redmi lineup.
