The announcement was made on Twitter by the company’s Global VP and India CEO, Manu Jain and the company’s second Android One smartphone will now be available for Rs 11,999, down from its previous price of Rs 13,999. This places the phone in the same price range as its newly launched Redmi Note 7, however, the Redmi 7 features an updated design with a waterdrop notch and runs on MIUI 10, while the Mi A2 has an 18:9 display aspect ratio and as mentioned, runs on stock Android 9 Pie OS.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor, which is clocked at 2.20GHz. The smartphone sells in a 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, which was originally priced at Rs 15,999 and a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant priced at Rs 18,999. The 6GB variant of the phone now retails for Rs 15,999. In terms of optics, the smartphone sports a dual-rear camera setup. It sports a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor with an f/1.75 lens, which is paired with a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor that supports 4-in-1 pixel binning and an f/1.75 lens. It comes with a 20MP sensor on the front, which comes with a soft-light LED flash.

The price cut for the Mi A2 could be seen as a move to stay ahead of the competition and make sure its own product lineup does not clash. As mentioned earlier, the Mi A2 now costs the same as the Redmi Note 7. However, there are some major differences between the two. The Redmi Note 7 features a 6.3-inch LCD display that is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 on top and it has a 19.5:9 display aspect ratio. It is also powered by the Snapdragon 660 SoC and comes in two variants, one with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage and another with 4GB RAM and 64GB memory.
