Vodafone India announces relocation service for post-paid customers

Vodafone India has announced a new facility for its post-paid customers, allowing them to get a local Vodafone number without changing tariff plan and credit limit, when they are shifting to a different state.

Vodafone’s relocation service is aimed at helping its customers who face trouble while securing a local mobile phone connection after relocating to a different state. The telecom operator says its customers can retain the same credit limit and special plans which they had on their earlier post-paid connection.

To avail Vodafone’s relocation service, post-paid customer will need to apply for the service in his current location. At the new location, Vodafone executives will contact the customer, give a new number and change billing address. Customer will need to hand over copy of their identity proof.

Vodafone India’s Chief Commercial Officer Sanjoy Mukerji noted that customers relocating to different states face difficulties in securing a new local mobile phone connection as they need to look for right tariff plans from different services providers in the circle once again. “Customers who were enjoying special privileges like higher credit limits, billing details, etc. in their older location need to establish their credentials in their new location,” he said.

Vodafone’s new scheme is noteworthy, as customers presently cannot port out to different operator and retain same number during location change to a different state. However, the National Telecom Policy, which is slated to come into effect later this year, will remove this anomaly as it features free-roaming, and pan-India mobile number portability.
