Xiaomi has teased its next smartphone on Amazon India. It is expected to have a 720p HD display, and dual-SIM 4G support.
Xiaomi has a teaser running on Amazon India's page page which reads, #PrimeIsComing. The company has teased the same on its Facebook India page, which reads, “Pixel Perfect Display”. There was some confusion regarding the device and its specifications, but Xiaomi has replied to users' comments on Facebook, stating that the device will have a 5.5-inch 720p IPS display.
Contrary to prior expectations of the device being Redmi Note 2 Prime, it is now being expected to be a different smartphone. To a similar user query guessing the device, Xiaomi has replied, "Guess again". With that, it is somewhat confirmed that Xiaomi is not launching the Redmi Note 2 Prime. Nevertheless, the Chinese giant is set to unveil the device in India, soon, and it will be sold exclusively on Amazon India.
Xiaomi has been in patent troubles of late, but Qualcomm’s official blog states that it has entered into a new 3G-4G patent license agreement with Xiaomi in China. "Under the terms of the agreement, Qualcomm has granted Xiaomi a royalty-bearing patent license to develop, manufacture and sell 3G (WCDMA and CDMA2000) and 4G, including 3-mode (LTE-TDD, TD-SCDMA and GSM), complete devices. The royalties payable by Xiaomi are consistent with the terms of the rectification plan submitted by Qualcomm to China’s National Reform and Development Commission."
Speculations and expectations are high about which device will Xiaomi finally launch in India. Meanwhile, rumours about the Xiaomi Mi 5 keep flowing in – the next generation Xiaomi flagship which has been expected for about a year now. Here's hoping Xiaomi moves into a more regular cycle with its device upgrades and launches.
