These Sony and HTC smartphones are confirmed to receive Android 9.0 Pie update

The HTC U12+, U11+, U11, and U11 life smartphones are confirmed to receive the new update. Sony has reportedly announced the update for six of its Xperia handsets.

Android 9 Pie was announced earlier week and as expected, some of the smartphone manufacturers are now announcing, which of their devices will get it. HTC recently tweeted that the latest Android flavour will be made available for its HTC U12+, U11+, U11, and U11 life smartphones. Additionally, as per GizChina, Sony has also confirmed that the Android 9 Pie update will soon be seeded for its Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ2 Premium, Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and Xperia XZ Premium smartphones.

Talking about the timeline, the aforementioned Xperia smartphones will be updated from September to November 2018. HTC, on the other hand, will announce the update schedule of Android Pie for its devices later. As expected, both smartphone manufacturers are prioritising the major Android update for their flagship and other top-end devices, however, their other models that were launched recently can also be expected to be included in the succeeding updates.

HMD Global has also announced that the Android developer preview build – DP4 (Beta 4) is being made available for its Nokia 7 Plus. The company has also reportedly rolled out a stable update of Android 9 Pie for some Nokia 7 Plus users in India. As per a previous report, the update is around 1173 MB in size and the company gave out a statement, “Developers who own a Nokia 7 plus have been able to receive developer preview builds since the program launch on 8th May, with subsequent updates becoming available via OTA (over-the-air) and manual sideload flash. Currently, the Nokia 7 plus is among a small handful of handsets which can access Beta 4.”

The Final build of Android P, before it’s rolled out officially, is currently limited to Google Pixel series of devices like the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The select few brands, which were a part of the initial testing of the software like Sony Mobile, Xiaomi, HMD Global, Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Essential will also be receiving the final build of the OS in the fall.
