Meanwhile, the average Mumbaikar has to work for 917.8 hrs in in order to be able to buy the iPhone X

One could argue that the Apple iPhone X is possibly the most desireable smartphone in the market right now. However, with that desirability comes a hefty price tag. Not only is the smartphone the most expensive smartphone that Apple has launched till now, but it is also one of the most expensive smartphones you could buy straight of the shelf. So, have you ever wondered how long you would have to work in order to buy one for yourself? Well, wonder no more. UBS has created a report that details how long a person in select cities would have to work in order to afford an iPhone X

As you would expect, those in more developed and well to do cities have to work less in order to afford the smartphone, while the opposite is true for those in developing cities. But it’s the sheer number of working hours, as well as the contrast between the cities that makes the report so fascinating.

Sticking to the Indian context, the report list only two Indian cities, New Delhi and Mumbai. And as per the report, those working in the capital city of India earn more on average, than those living in the financial capital of the country. As a result, the average Delhiite has to work for about 804.2 hours in order to buy an iPhone X, while the average Mumbaikar has to work for 917.8 hours. If you’re wondering, that’s 33.5 days of working non-stop in order to buy the phone in Delhi, while, over in Mumbai, the average person will have to work for 38.2 days non-stop to afford an iPhone X.

UBS states that it calculated this by analyzing two things, the price of an iPhone X in a given city and the average salary in that particular city across 15 professions. It then crunched the numbers to come up with the results.

If you’re wondering how other cities fared, someone in Cairo, Egypt will have to work for 1,066.2 hours, while someone in New York, USA will have to work for 54.1 hours. The list was topped by Zurich, Switzerland where the average person will have to work for 38.2 hours to be able to afford an iPhone X.

Of course, you could just go out and buy another phone…
