Spice unveils ‘Secure Android’ Spice Stellar series, starting Rs. 6,499

Spice today announced its range of ‘Secure Android’ smartphones. This new range of smartphones is launched under the name ‘Spice Stellar’ and would be available in 3 devices with varied screen sizes – 3.5-inch, 4-inch and 5-inch.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kunal Ahooja, Global Head – Devices, S Mobility said, “We are happy to tie up with NQ Mobile to offer latest solutions on mobile security for the benefit of our customers. High processor speed coupled with the latest android version on Spice Stellar range of devices, provides rich consumer experience but to ensure that this experience can be enjoyed without any interruption, Mobile Security is equally important!”

Spice Stellar is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, which is upgradable to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). The update will be made available towards the end of July 2012. It runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Stellar has a 4.0-inch touch screen. The smartphone also boasts of a 2,000 mAh. The smartphone also shows off dual-SIM capabilities, has a 5MP rear camera and a VGA front facing camera. The Spice Stellar is priced at Rs. 9,999.

Coming soon will be the Spice Stellar Horizon, which has a 5-inch touch screen and runs on Google Android 4.0 ICS. It has a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a dedicated 300MHz GPU. It possesses a 5MP auto focus camera with a 0.3MP front camera. The device also boasts of dual-SIM capability, GPS/AGPS, Wi-Fi tethering and a 2,150 mAh battery. The Spice Stellar Horizon will be priced at Rs. 11,999.

Another device from Spice expected to launch soon is the Spice Stellar Craze that offers a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 800MHz processor and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is upgradable to Android 4.0 ICS. The device also boasts of dual-SIM capabilities. The Spice Stellar Craze will be priced at Rs. 6,499

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kunal Ahooja, Global Head-devices S Mobility Limited said, “With the launch of the ‘Stellar’ series of handsets, we have brought in the country’s first secured Android handsets and also created a platform in offering one of the best in technology at an affordable price. We are proud to offer the latest Android ICS platform on the ‘Stellar’ handsets.”

To address mobile data security concerns, Spice has entered into an association with NQ Mobile that deals in the mobile security solutions space. The company operates in more than 150 countries, to provide security software solutions in all Android devices of Spice.

The solutions offered will include a mobile antivirus that offers flexibility for the user to set a schedule for regular scans of data in the device as well as SD card. Also in the security stable is a Network Manager giving access to information like data traffic, and the setting of a monthly data transfer limit. Other features include anti-theft and vault- privacy lock for apps like, photos, videos, SMS and call logs & secret contacts. Users can update the virus/malware database for a period of six months absolutely free.
