Sony Xperia Z4 gets FCC approval, will be announced at MWC 2015
HIGHLIGHTS

The next Sony flagship smartphone has officially been certified by the FCC and is expected to be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Conference in Barcelona.

We all know Sony has a six month upgrade cycle for its flagship smartphone and today we've heard that the upcoming Xperia Z4 has been certified by the Federal Communications Commission in the USA. This makes it clear that Sony will announce the smartphone very soon at MWC 2015.

The specs of the smartphone were leaked earlier which suggested that it will retain its form factor but will be a bit more compact than the Xperia Z3 and have slimmer bezels. There will also be two versions, both with a 5.2-inch Trimluminos display but one with 1080p resolution and one with 1440p resolution. Hardware specifications include a Snapdragon 810 SoC, 4GB of RAM, a 20.7MP camera with OIS, LTE Cat.9-capability (450Mbps), a 3,400 mAH battery, IP68 certification and Android 5.0 Lollipop with firmware 25.0.A.0.33. Sony is also expected to announce the Z4 Compact, Z4 tablet and also a large phablet, the Z4 Ultra.

Sony has not been doing spectacularly in the smartphone segment despite following a quick upgrade cycle and launching devices with a variety of high-end features, especially the waterproof body and the high-end 20.7MP camera sensor. One of the reasons for Sony's fall is its high price point of devices and low engagment in the low to mid range category of devices. The company was also in news recently where Reuters reported that Sony is open to selling its mobile division.
