HIGHLIGHTS

The Sony Xperia XZ1 was announced alongside the Xperia XZ1 Compact at IFA earlier this month. The smartphone features flagship specifications and a design similar to the existing Xperia flagships.

Xperia XZ1, Sony's second flagship smartphone of the year, will be launched in India today. The smartphone was first unveiled at IFA 2017 earlier this month. The Xperia XZ1 is the successor to last year's Xperia XZ and was announced alongside the Xperia XZ1 Compact and the Xperia XA1 Plus smartphones at IFA in Berlin.

The Japanese consumer electronics giant had launched the Xperia XA1 Plus last week and is all set to introduce the Xperia XZ1 for the Indian market today. The Xperia XZ1 is the first smartphone to launch with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. It offers flagship specification, but sticks to the company's Omnibalance design, while competitors are increasingly adopting a bezel-less design.

The Xperia XZ1 sports a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with X-Reality Engine, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and HDR10 support. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 mobile platform, coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. The company is expected to introduce the dual-SIM variant here in India, which uses the second SIM slot for expandable storage.

The Xperia XZ1 gets the same 19MP Motion Eye camera that first debuted on the Xperia XZ Premium and the Xperia XZs at MWC earlier this year. The 19MP main camera has an f/2.0 aperture, electronic image stabilisation, predictive phase detection and laser autofocus and LED flash. It is also capable of recording 960fps super slow-motion videos at 720p resolution. There is a 13MP front camera for selfies with electronic image stabilisation and support for 1080p video recording.

With the Xperia XZ1, Sony also introduced a new feature called 3D Creator that allows users to 3D scan faces or objects and print them on a 3D printer. The 3D creator comes with four different modes: face, head, freeform and food to reproduce 3D images and share them on social media.

The Xperia XZ1 is IP68 water and dust resistant and supports connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and 4G LTE. Like other Xperia flagships, the XZ1 also gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and features a 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone is backed by a 2700mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 via a USB-C port. The Xperia XZ1 is likely to be available in black, silver, pink and blue colour variants.
