Sony's Xperia Z Ultra phablet has a huge 6.4-inch screen, a waterproof design, quad-core processor and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.
Sony has unveiled the latest edition to its Xperia series of smartphones, named the Xperia Z Ultra. The device is blurring the lines between a smartphone and tablet with a large 6.4-inch display screen (featuring a 1080p resolution).
The Xperia Z Ultra has a metallic frame with tempered glass on both the front and rear. This is the first smartphone to feature Sony’s Triluminos Display technology which according to the company “promises wider and a richer color gamut”. It also has Sony’s X-Reality Bravia mobile display technology. Like the original Xperia Z, the Xperia Z Ultra has a dust and water resistant design, with 1P58 certification.
The mobile is powered with a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mobile processor and runs on the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS. It has 16GB of built-in storage of which 11GB is user-accessible. The memory is expandable via a microSD card slot up to 64GB. It weighs 212 grams but has slimmed down to 6.5mm. Sony has packed the mobile with a 3,000mAh battery.
The Xperia Z Ultra comes with handwriting recognition software that works with any graphite pencil, a capacitive stylus or even a metal pen with tip diameter of over 1mm. You can use the screen to write notes or make sketches even during phone calls or on top of other apps.
You can use the phone to take full-HD videos underwater with an 8-megapixel Exmor RS sensor camera. It also has a front-facing 2-megapixel camera. The phone is available in white, black and purple colors. The Xperia Z Ultra is expected to be launched globally in Q3 2013.
