Sony Ericsson details the Xperia Play, due out in March

February 13th has passed, and Sony Ericsson has unveiled what they promised to on the eve of the Mobile World Congress. Apart from detailing the Xperia Play which was first officially introduced in a Superbowl advertisement a week ago, Sony Ericsson has also detailed two other new Android based Xperia handsets – the Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro, of which you can find more coverage here.

Available in black or white, CDMA or GSM, the Xperia Play will be launched in Europe and the U.S. sometime in March, with global availability presumably following soon after that. Detailed official specifications have been revealed, and can be found below.

[RELATED_ARTICLE]Other details Sony Ericsson announced include the type of games you can expect to play on the Xperia Play: pre-loaded “legendary” PS1 games, as well as a variety of popular Android games. By the time of launch, Sony Ericsson has also promised the availability of more than 50 titles from 20 publishers, and, there will also be various PlayStation titles available exclusively for the Xperia Play on the Android Market. The PlayStation Suite, unveiled back at the NGP event, will be available sometime later this year. Many of the games that will be on offer for the Xperia Play will be ports created using the Unity cross-platform engine. Mobile hotspot-based multiplayer gaming will also be supported, with such titles as FIFA. Everything, will of course, be PlayStation Certified.

The Xperia Play will also feature SE’s Timescape, but no Mediascape, which has been split into separate native applications. Surprisingly, a document editor will also be bundled onboard.
