HIGHLIGHTS

The reports regarding Snapdragon 680 follow the launch of Snapdragon 710 and the announcement of Snapdragon 850 SoCs. the score hint that this unannounced platform will power upper mid-range phones.

Amidst the hype about Qualcomm’s newly-launched Snapdragon 710 SoC, an unannounced Snapdragon 680 chipset with scores of 1940 and 5153 points in single-core and multi-core tests respectively was found listed on Geekbench on a test device supported by 6GB of RAM and running on Android 8.1 Oreo.

According to a report by Gizmochina, the scores suggest that the SoC has performance capabilties between Snapdragon 710 (18XX | 60XX) and Snapdragon 660 (16XX | 5970) platforms hinting that the the chipset could be used in the upper mid-range phones. The Geekbench listing also said that the Snapdragon 680 is a hexa-core SoC clocked at 2.15 GHz.

The single-core score of this unannounced SoC is almost similar to Snapdragon 835 chipset that was used to power flagship devices in 2017.

Last month, Qualcomm launched Snapdragon 710 — the first chipset under the company’s new 700 series, which slots in between the flagship 800 series and the mid-range 600 series. The new Snapdragon 710 is an octa-core chipset and is manufactured using the 10nm manufacturing process, which is the same process used for the flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset.

Snapdragon 710  is said to power at least two upcoming Xiaomi devices with code-named “Sirius” and “Comet". At COMPUTEX 2018, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 850 platform in partnership with Microsoft to power low power Windows 10 machines for an always on, always connected use case. The Snapdragon 850 is thus, a successor the Snapdragon 835 which was announced last year for the same use case.  Qualcomm is also reported to be working on Snapdragon 1000 processor that will feature a 12W Thermal Design Power (TDP).
