Smartphone users prefer gaming, music, browsing to making calls
Gone are the days when mobile phones were used just for calling and texting. In the era of smartphones, these devices are used for various purposes such as video chatting, gaming, surfing the Internet, social networking, photography and so on. Making calls may not necessarily be main agenda for using a smartphone. In fact a report by Daily Mail suggests making calls isn’t even close to being the main use for smartphones.
According to the report, smartphone owners spend approximately 12 minutes making voice calls, as compared to 24 minutes 49 seconds per day browsing the web. Moreover, making calls is at the fifth position on the list, after social media (17 mins), listening to music (15 mins) and playing games (14 mins).
Below making voice calls are listed writing e-mails (11 min), shooting text messages (10 minutes), watching TV and movies and reading books (both 9 mins).
“Smartphones are now being used like a digital ‘Swiss Army Knife’, replacing possessions like watches, cameras, books and even laptops,” said O2 UK’s general manager of devices David Johnson. “While we’re seeing no let-up in the number of calls customers make or the amount of time they spend speaking on their phones, their phone now plays a far greater role in all aspects of their lives.”
Other interesting findings of the report included 54 percent of users using their smartphones as their alarm clock, while some 46 percent said smartphones were their main timepiece. About 39 percent users have ditched camera and moved over to their phone. And more than a quarter of these users use smartphones in place of laptops.
