Second-gen Karbonn Android One Smartphone to launch in Q1 2015

Shashin Devsare confirms, next generation Karbonn Android One smartphone to arrive in Q1 2015.

Karbonn has announced that it will be releasing its second generation Android One handset in the first quarter of 2015.

Executive Director of Karbonn Mobiles, Shashin Devsare, stated at the Dream 500 Million Smartphones event in New Delhi that the company is committed to Google's Android One program and believes in its potential and also promised the launch of a new smartphone in Q1 2015.

Devsare stated, "Expect [a] new Android One smartphone in 2015 first quarter. We have had an excellent response on Android One devices. We believe that Android One will mature over time. Our partnership for Android One is going to be long term."

Earlier this week domestic handset maker Spice has also announced the first Hindi-language variant of its Android One smartphone – the Spice Dream Uno H. The smartphone features a complete Hindi keyboard and offers voice input along with Hindi versions of Android and popular Google products such as Chrome, Search, Google Maps and YouTube. It has a 4.5 inch IPS display, a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. It has a 5 MP rear camera along with a 2 MP front camera and 32 GB expandable memory.  

Google had launched its Android One program earlier this year and stated that it was a part of a "larger initiative to bring high-quality smartphones to as many people as possible." Google had tied up with Karbonn, Micromax, and Spice to launch the first Android One smartphones. The internet giant has also committed to provide smartphone manufacturers with a framework that governs the kind of specifications that are to be used in Android One handsets along with regular software updates from Google.
