The Samsung W2019 clamshell smartphone may run on Android Pie and have dual-camera setup on the back.

Samsung may launch another flagship smartphone, likely the Samsung W2019, by the end of this year in China. The smartphone may be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and according to XDADevelopers, the smartphone is “likely cost a pretty penny” and will not be available outside of China. The development comes a month after a leakster claimed that Samsung will launch a flip phone with a dual-camera setup on the back.

Although nothing about the Samsung W2019 has been confirmed yet, but few rumours have already been making rounds on the internet. Earlier, a tweet by a Chinese Twitter user @MMDDJ said that the phone, which is being codenamed “Project Lykan", will have two cameras at the back. A report also claimed that the clamshell Android phone from the South Korean giant will have a dual-camera setup similar to what has been seen on the Galaxy S9+. The camera unit in the Galaxy S9+ has two lenses: a 12MP wide-angle lens and a 12MP telephoto lens.

This claim was followed by SamMobile, which discovered firmware build W2019ZCU0ARI1 which is likely for the W2019. Upon digging into the kernel source code for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 variant of the Samsung Galaxy S9, the folks at XDA found references to a device code-named “lykan”, mentions of two files named sdm845-sec-lykanlte-chn-r00.dtb and sdm845-sec-lykanlte-chn-r01.dtb. This implies that there is a device with codenamed “lykan”, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and is a smartphone specially for China.

Just like the Samsung W2018 was launched in China two months ahead of the unveiling of the ninth edition of Galaxy S series lineup, it is speculated that the W2019 will also be launched sometime in December ahead of the next S series flagships, the Galaxy S10. The smartphone could come with Samsung’s Artificial Intelligent (AI)-powered assistant Bixby with Chinese language support.
