Samsung reveals its Android 2.1 based Galaxy tablet

It looks like the rumoured S-Pad has been revealed as the Galaxy by Samsung, a tablet that runs Google’s Android 2.1 OS with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. Seems more like slightly-smaller iPad than what we’d seen of the well-buttoned S-Pad earlier. While we hope the Galaxy tablet features the S-Pad’s rumoured Super AMOLED technology, the above picture doesn’t give much indication of the screen being anything more than a high-res LCD.

The image of the 8-inch touchscreen tablet was posted on Samsung’s South African Twitter Feed, along with information that it would sport a 3.5mm jack. In case you aren’t familiar with the S-Pad rumoured specs, that’s because there wasn’t much else to be known except that it would offer both WiFi and 3G connectivity. The easily seen phone button however does give away the tablets voice calling abilities. There’s also talk of the tablet being tied up with the Samsung App Store. Already sparking excitement all around by their amply-powered Galaxy S and Wave phones, Samsung has certainly hooked a lot of people into eagerly awaiting the juicy specs.
