Samsung Pay app code suggests Galaxy S10 model with in-display fingerprint sensor
A code found during the teardown of the Samsung Pay app shows that the phone with code name “Beyond” (a codename associated with all Galaxy S10 devices) has an in-display sensor.
Highlights:
- Code suggests Samsung Galaxy S10 will come with in-display fingerprint sensor.
- The Galaxy S10 phones are expected to get bigger batteries and fast charging tech.
Samsung has been teasing its Galaxy S10 smartphone for sometime now. It has been highly-reported that the upcoming generation of S-Series smartphones will have several industry-first features, like two punch-hole selfie cameras. Another feature, an in-display fingerprint sensor, is also expected to be introduced in the Galaxy S10 device – a first for any Samsung smartphone. Now, a code found during the teardown of the Samsung Galaxy app suggests that at least one model will have this feature.
XDADevelopers say that they have found a mention of the in-display fingerprint sensor in a phone which is code-named “Beyond”. For those who are unaware, all the models of the Samsung Galaxy S10 have “Beyond” codename but they are differentiated by a numerical value added as the suffix to name. “There are four devices codenamed ‘beyond 0’, ‘beyond 1’, ‘beyond 2’, and ‘beyond 2 5G’,” XDADevelopers claimed in a previous report.
The tech news platform says that in the teardown of the Samsung Pay app, it found two references to an in-display fingerprint scanner and “one reference directly mentions the Galaxy S10’s code-name.” It notes that these references are used for showing the payment authentication window in the Samsung Pay app or online payments on supported sites. In the both the cases, Samsung Pay app is checking “if the device has an in-display fingerprint scanner, and if so, it’ll shift the payment flow window at the bottom a bit higher up to make more room.”
Meanwhile, Samsung has teased the Galaxy S10 phones again in a video. Taking up the recent social media trend of #10yearchallenge, Samsung video showcases the innovation that it has brought to its devices in the last decade. It mentions four cameras, water and dust resistance, curved display, and bigger battery. Interestingly, reports surrounding the Galaxy S10 have cumulatively mentioned that all these features are expected to come in the new devices.
For example, the 5G model of the Galaxy S10 is said to come with four rear cameras, all the models are said to come with IP68 rating and the curved display which is synonymous with Samsung flagship devices. The South Korean giant introduced bigger batteries in its last year’s flagship devices. The Galaxy S9 has a 300mAh battery, the bigger variant Galaxy S10+ has 3600mAh battery and the Galaxy Note 9 housed a massive 4000mAh battery.
Famous tipster Ice Universe has claimed that the upcoming S10 devices are either expected to have large batteries, or a fast charging tech. Forbes says that the vanilla Galaxy S10 will get a 500mAh bump from the Galaxy S9 to 3500 mAh, while the Galaxy S10 Plus will also get an increase to get a Galaxy Note 9-matching 4,000mAh capacity. The most affordable model, the Galaxy S10 Lite, is expected to ship with 3,100mAh battery capacity. All these phones may come with 22.5W charging adaptor for fast charging.
