Samsung to launch a budget Tizen-based phone in India: Reports
HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung's entry level Tizen-based smartphones specifications leaked.

Samsung may soon launch a budget Tizen OS based smartphone in emerging markets like India. Although Samsung hasn't confirmed the device, a new report has revealed some new specifications about the device.

SamMobile has leaked hardware information about a low-end Tizen smartphone. According to sources, the smartphone will feature dual-SIM slots and an inbuilt FM radio, which are particularly popular features in India. The handset will also come with a 3.2 MP rear camera, which is a standard for budget smartphones in this price segment. The entry level device will also support native apps for Facebook and Twitter.

Earlier this year, Samsung has announced the Samsung Z, the company's first Tizen-based smartphone. However the company killed the device and stated that it will instead focus on budget Tizen handsets, that will be rolled out later in the year.

Given the explosive growth in the smartphone market in emerging countries and the slowdown in the Western market, Samsung’s decision to launch the low cost Tizen operating system devices in India may be the right one. However, the Korean giant would face tough competition from the new Android One smartphones as well as the budget Mozilla OS-based Intex smartphones launched recently.

Even tech giant Microsoft has announced plans to enter the Indian market with budget handsets under $40 (Rs 2,500) approx later this year. Read: India to become the second biggest smartphone market by 2019

Samsung hasn’t commented on the budget Tizen smartphone yet and we will have to for an official announcement in the coming months. Do you think that Samsung's Tizen will be able to grab market share in emerging countries?
