Samsung may discontinue the all metal Galaxy Alpha in favor of cheaper phones.
Samsung is planning to discontinue its prettiest all metal smartphone the Galaxy Alpha in favor of the cheaper Galaxy A5.
According to reports, the electronics giant will produce the Galaxy Alpha until the materials it currently has in inventory for the device run out. The smartphone which has a beautiful all metal design, faced competition due to its high price. Now, after just a few months, the Galaxy Alpha is being replaced by the mid-range Galaxy A5.
"I understand that the Galaxy Alpha will be produced until the materials currently in inventory are used up," said an industry insider cited by ET News, "Its production will end by early February next year."
Samsung had announced the Galaxy A5 and A3 smartphones earlier this year. According to numerous reports the company is facing production issues for its latest metal-clad Galaxy A series, resulting in their delayed launch. "The casings did not meet the quality requirements Samsung was aiming for, and only around 50 percent of the yield came out right," noted an earlier report citing insider sources. Samsung has already launched the Galaxy A5 in China and is planning to launch the Galaxy A5 in the Korean market in mid-January to early February. It will ease out the Galaxy Alpha during the same time. Samsung which has seen a dwindling in its market share has stated that it will be focusing on more affordable devices in the future. The electronics giant has also stated that it is also planning to launch another line of mid-range and budget devices similar to its Galaxy A series.
