Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be announced on August 23 at an event in New York. The smartphone is shaping up to be the direct competitor to Apple's iPhone 8 and is also expected to come in a 256GB storage option.
THe Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple's iPhone 8 with an OLED display are undoubtedly the two most anticipated flagship smartphones right now. Samsung has already confirmed that its Galaxy Note 8, the successor to last year's explosive Galaxy Note 7 will be announced at an event in New York on August 23. Apple, however, is yet to officially announce the launch date of its next iPhone.
The Korean media reports that Samsung has once again advanced the launch of its Note series to take advantage of reported delay around Apple's iPhone 8 availability. Now a new leak states that the Galaxy Note 8 will also be available in 256GB storage variant to compete with the iPhone. KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo states that Apple's OLED iPhone will only be offered in 128GB and 256GB storage variants. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 model numbers have been detailed by tipster Roland Quandt, which shows a variant with 256GB storage. Quandt says the 256GB variant will only be available in Korea and could be rolled out to the Chinese market as well.

In terms of specifications, the Galaxy Note 8 will sport a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ display and offer 6GB RAM and 64GB storage as standard configuration. The handset will also sport the Infinity Display design first seen on company's Galaxy S8 series with slightly squared-off corners similar to previous Note series smartphones. The smartphone will use the Snapdragon 835 chipset in the US while all other markets will get company's own Exynos 8895 processor.
The Galaxy Note 8's selling point is expected to be the dual rear camera setup and improved S-Pen with productivity features. The Note 8 is said to sport a dual 12MP ISOCELL rear camera system with one wide-angle lens and another telephoto lens capable of 2x optical zoom. The smartphone will feature an 8MP front camera with autofocus and f/1.7 aperture. It is also expected to support an improved S-Pen with new features including translation support.
The Galaxy Note 8 will be backed by a 3300mAh battery with support for fast charging and wireless charging. The Galaxy Note 8 is said to become available in September at an estimated retail price of €1,000, making it the most expensive smartphone from the South Korean company yet. The Apple iPhone 8 is said to become available at a retail price of $1,200, making both the devices direct competitor in terms of price as well.
