Samsung Galaxy A8 Star teased on Amazon, could be priced above Rs 30,000
HIGHLIGHTS

Amazon is hosting a dedicated webpage for a Samsung Star smartphone, which is most likely the Galaxy A8 Star, the global variant of the Galaxy A9 Star. Amazon has teased it with a price tag of Rs 3x,xxx.

Samsung launched its Galaxy A9 Star as a China exclusive smartphone back in June and it seems like its global variant, the Galaxy A8 Star could soon be launched in India. Amazon India is teasing a Samsung Star smartphone via a dedicated micro-site, which is most likely the Galaxy A8 Star. The handset was previously launched in the Philippines priced at  CNY 2,999 (Rs 30,700 approx) and Amazon India’s micro-site for the upcoming device also hints at a price tag of above Rs 30,000. Additionally, the webpage hints at a Samsung smartphone with an 18.5:9 display aspect ratio,  vertically stacked dual-rear camera setup, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a good battery life.

The Galaxy A8 Star is powered by the Snapdragon 660 SoC, coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card. It features a 6.3-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display with an 18.5:9 display aspect ratio. The device runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Samsung Experience UX on top and is powered by a 3700mAh battery. In term of optics, the smartphone comes with 16MP + 24MP sensors on the rear, both with a f/1.7 aperture lens and an LED flash. On the front, it comes with a 24MP sensor with a f/2.0 aperture.

Since Amazon has the dedicated microsite up for the smartphone, we can expect the device to be launched soon. However, let’s hope that Samsung does not repeat the mistake of passing stock images as camera samples, as it recently did with the Galaxy A8 (2018) in Brazil. The company’s local division tweeted out some images supposedly taken from the device’s selfie camera but a keen-eyed user spotted that the images were actually stock photos from Getty Images and not camera samples of the smartphone. When the jig was up, the company deleted the tweets. You can read about it in detail here
