Redmi 8 was launched just a couple of months back in India. Now, it looks like the company is already planning to release its successor, the Redmi 9, sometime soon. According to a new report, Xiaomi is said to launch the Redmi 9 in Q1 2020. The phone is tipped to be powered by the MediaTek G70 chipset, paired with 4GB RAM. The Redmi 9 is rumoured to sport a slightly larger profile than the Redmi 8. Other details such as the camera and battery capacity remain unknown.

According to a report from 91Mobiles, the Redmi 9 could pack the to-be-announced MediaTek Helio G70 SoC under the hood. While we have come across this chipset for the first time, going by the naming convention, the Helio G70 SoC could be positioned below the Helio G90 and Helio G90T in MediaTek's portfolio. It may be gaming-focused. It is said to be paired with 4GB RAM on the Redmi 9. However, the phone could launch with different RAM and storage configurations.

The Redmi 9 is rumoured to feature a 6.6-inch display. It is expected to come with a waterdrop notch at the top. It is said to sport at least two rear cameras. The Redmi 9 will reportedly launch in Q1 2020 in China. India launch could follow soon after that.

To recall, the Redmi 8 was launched in two variants, 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset and packs a 5000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. It sports a 12MP primary lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The handset comes equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It runs Android 9 Pie. The Redmi 8 was launched with MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie. It is priced at Rs 7,999 in India.
