Realme X India launch could happen around Diwali as CEO confirms H2 2019 timeline
HIGHLIGHTS

The Realme X will come to India in the second half of 2019.

Based on company strategy, we might see the phone launch during Diwali.

The phone comes with a bezel-less display, a pop-up selfie camera, and a 48MP camera on the back.

The Realme X is the young brand’s flagship with a bezel-less display and a pop-up camera and is presently available only in China, even when all of Realme’s previous phones have debuted first in India. Why is the company shying away from the Indian market? We don’t know for sure. But we do know that the phone will eventually launch in India. Madhav Sheth, CEO of Realme India said at the launch that the Realme X will launch in India ‘soon’.

Now in a QnA with a Twitter user, Sheth has confirmed that the Realme X will not launch in India anytime before the second half this year. The statement is in line with how the Realme X was introduced in the Chinese market. The mid-range flagship was announced in the month of May when the Dragon Boat festival is celebrated in China, which the company expects will deliver higher sales. Sheth had acknowledged it at the launch event in Beijing to Digit.in and hinted the phone will launch during a similar festive time in India.

When asked about how the company is planning to compete with the onslaught of new and powerful mid-range phones after they acknowledged a 7 percent market share in the online segment, Madhav Sheth first pointed out that the market performance should not be judged by the number of launches.

“Never judge a smartphone market by the number of launches. The reason is because the season in India is different. During Diwali, I would require the products to be ready beforehand. And Diwali for China might be in June. We would launch according to the seasons,” Sheth said at a press conference after the launch event.

Now, with him claiming the phone will come during the second half of the year, there’s circumstantial evidence that the Realme X might launch some time before Diwali during the festive season in India. That’s certainly bad news for folks waiting for the Realme X to launch ‘soon’ in India.
