Qualcomm unveils its Quick Charge 4+, with faster, cooler charging
HIGHLIGHTS

Quick Charge 4+ is an improved version of Quick Charge 4, which the company unveiled back in November last year

It seems that Qualcomm really wants to charge phones faster. After it unveiled its Quick Charge 4 technology just over six months back, the company has introduced an improved version of the fast charging technology called Quick Charge 4+. With Quick Charge 4, Qualcomm claimed that it would allow a device to charge from empty to 50 percent in 15 minutes. The company also said that it added new technologies designed to further extend battery life cycle, enhance safety, and more. Besides coming with all the benefits of Quick Charge 4, Quick Charge 4+ adds three new enhancements. This includes Dual Charge, Intelligent Thermal Balancing, and advanced safety features.

Dual Charge was an option in earlier version of the technology, but it's now more powerful as it introduces a second power management IC in the device. The company says that charging a device with this technology divides the charge current, which allows for a lower thermal dissipation and reduced charge time. Intelligent Thermal Balancing is an enhancement of Dual Charge and helps to move current via the coolest path autonomously. Qualcomm claims that this helps eliminate hot spots for optimized power delivery. Quick Charge 4+ is also designed to monitor the case and connector temperature levels simultaneously. The company says that this extra layer of protection will ward against overheating, short-circuit, or damage to the connector.

With these new features, Qualcomm believes that devices with Quick Charge 4+ have the potential to charge 30 percent more efficiently as compared to Quick Charge 4.
