The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition comes on the heels of Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition which revealed the new 50W charging system. Now OnePlus has hinted at something called Warp Charge in its latest tweet.
A teaser released by OnePlus on its Twitter page for its upcoming OnePlus 6T McLaren edition hints at new “Warp Charge” a potential 50Watt charging system for the new OnePlus phone. OnePlus had trademarked “Warp Charge” earlier this year after sister brand Oppo released Super Vooc, a 50-Watt charging system for its super-car themed smartphone; the Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition.
The OnePlus 6T is rumoured to sport 10GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which by themselves make picking up the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition a good. Add to that 50Watt charging and we could be looking at a very impressive device that is more than just a brand collaboration. OnePlus’s current Dash Charge was impressive by itself, delivering incredible charging speeds over a 20Watt power delivery, but with total wattage now increasing amongst Chinese smartphone makers, OnePlus could not be expected to be left behind. Huawei had recently unveiled the 40W SuperCharge which we noted in our review to be impressively fast. Now if OnePlus does implement 50-Watt fast charging, questions about average battery life could become irrelevant.
OnePlus’s original charging was named Dash Charge, but the company ran into copyright issues over the name. Since the announcement of the OnePlus 6 earlier this year in June, the use of Dash Charge in marketing materials has seen a decline. Now with Warp Charge trademarked by OnePlus, this could be what the company calls its charging method moving forward. What would also be interesting is to see if all OnePlus phones moving forward would have the 50 Watt charging as a standard or will the company stick to 20W fast charging for regular editions and limit 50W to special editions only.
OnePlus initially used to launch only one device per year, which, starting with the OnePlus 3, moved to a 2 products per year trend. However, with the OnePlus 5, the company also got into released coloured variants and special editions. After the initial device launch, the company would wait a month or so before announcing a new colour, followed by the announcement of a special edition resulting from a collaboration with a popular brand or movie franchise. The result is product launches that span the entire length of a year. OnePlus launched the OnePlus 6T on October 29th in New York followed by the India launch on the 30th, and only a few weeks later, announced the Thunder Purple edition. Now, the McLaren edition of the OnePlus 6T is expected to launch on December 12 in India, followed by a device that could have a tie-in with any of the two Marvel movies coming out in March-April in 2019. Bottom line is, if you’re looking to buy a OnePlus, there's’ technically no better time than now because there will always be a possibility that OnePlus will launch a new colour or variant in time.
