Nubia will launch its Red Magic gaming smartphone in India post-Diwali. The ZTE sub-brand announced the smartphone back in April and it is now confirmed to make its way to India. The handset is expected to be priced below Rs 30,000 and take on the likes of Xiaomi Poco F1, OnePlus 6, Honor Play and other phones that fall in the same price range. However, the device lags behind its competition in terms of hardware as it packs the now dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. The phone tries to make up for it with its looks, an RBG lighting panel on the rear an air cooling technology consisting of nine air radiation slots.

Nubia Red Magic specifications

The Nubia Red Magic smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC coupled with 8 GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. It features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ LTPS TFT display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and an 85 percent screen-to-body ratio. There is no notch on top, but it sports a pixel density of 403ppi and a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. The dual-SIM device runs a stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo and is backed by a 3,800mAh battery that supports the company’s fast charging capabilities and NeoPower 3.0 power saving feature.

As per Nubia, one of the highlights of the Red Magic is the air-cooling technology. The phone sports nine air radiation slots, alongside three-layer graphite lamination technology, that are said to assist in thermal dissipation and keep temperatures in check. There is a dedicated button to activate the gaming mode, which disables incoming calls, messages, and other notifications. This is similar to what OnePlus’ Gaming mode offers. However, Nubia says that the gaming performance on the phone gets a boost with a 'turbo acceleration mode', which is said to have been tweaked for 128 games for now, and provides improved performance and faster game loading speeds.

In terms of optics, the Nubia Red Magic features a single 24MP camera setup on the back that has a 0.9-micron pixel size and f/1.7 aperture. On the front, it comes with an 8MP selfie camera with 1.12-micron pixel size and f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera is capable of capturing 4K videos at 30fps, while the front camera supports 1080p Full HD video recording at 30fps. The phone carries a 3.5mm headphone jack and gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor that is hexagonal in shape.

Nubia Red Magic Price

During the launch, the Nubia Red Magic was priced starting at CNY 2,499 (Rs 26,000 approx) for the 6GB RAM, 64GB storage variant, and its 8GB + 128GB storage version cost CNY 2,999 (Rs 31,000 approx). From what we know, the base variant of the Nubia Red Magic gaming smartphone could be priced under Rs 30,000 in India and will be made available in the Indian market after the Diwali season. The company is also expected to announce special offers to customers who pre-book the phone.
