Nokia and Idea team up for content access

Nokia and Idea Cellular have entered into a strategic partnership to provide Idea users access to the Indian and global content from Nokia Store and Nokia Music service. The partnership also brings in an integrated billing solution for both postpaid and prepaid Idea users.

Similar to Nokia’s arrangement with Vodafone, Idea users can pay for the content through their postpaid and prepaid accounts. Idea customers renew their Nokia Music subscription for Rs. 50 with validity of 7 days. For Rs. 99, they get a validity of 30 days, and Rs. 250 for 90 days validity. Postpaid users can pay for the subscription renewal as part of their monthly phone bills whereas prepaid users can get the amount deducted from their prepaid balance.

“This partnership democratises access to the best local and global content by making it available across Nokia smartphone and feature phones with affordable pricing and a seamless payment experience. We believe integrated operator billing is very relevant for a market like India,” says Viral Oza, Director Marketing, Nokia India.

“Our initiative with Nokia will enable affordable and easy access to music and entertainment-based apps on the Nokia platform in remote parts of the country where Internet is only accessible on mobile,” Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular, said.

Nokia in a release said the two companies are now planning to focus on users using Idea network on Nokia phones for Internet browsing in order to open up opportunities for the Indian and global app developers, music companies and publishers.

A range of the Nokia Asha and Lumia devices come with the bundled unlimited music service subscription ranging from several months to a year.
