Key highlights

  • Nokia 9 PureView successor is tipped to feature Snapdragon 855 SoC with 5G support
  • It might sport a 2K “true edge-to-edge display with a camera hole.”
  • The phone is expected to launch in August 2019 (tentative)

HMD Global may not have unveiled the Nokia 9 PureView yet, but it looks like the phone’s successor has already been leaked. First spotted by Nokia Power User, @LeaksNokia has tweeted that the successor to Nokia’s upcoming flagship smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC and offer support for 5G. It is noted that the company may launch the device in August, 2019. Other features mentioned in the post include a 2K “true edge-to-edge display with a camera hole.” The ‘camera hole’ is most likely referring to the new trend of ‘punch-hole’ front cameras offered in devices like the Honor View 20. The tweet also notes that the device will still offer the same penta-camera setup that the Nokia 9 PureView is tipped to offer. However, the successor is said to offer a larger sensor with “better imaging quality.” However, like most leaks, it’s best to take this one with a pinch of salt.

HMD Global is expected to launch its new flagship smartphone later this month and the launch of a successor within a few months might definitely irk those who purchased the Nokia 9 PureView smartphone. To recall, the Nokia 9 PureView is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and offer 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The phone is expected to offer Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box and will most likely be a part of Google’s Android One program. As such, it should get timely updates for at least two years.

Earlier today, a video said to be the promo video for the phone was leaked. The video again tipped at the penta-camera setup the phone is expected to come with. Further, the handset is said to feature a 5.99-inch 2K display with an in-display fingerprint sensor. It is also expected to offer support for Qi wireless charging.
