HMD Global has not finalised the retail names, but its next devices could be mid-range Android smartphones powered by the still-unofficial Snapdragon 660 SoC.

Nokia has finally announced its smartphone lineup for the global market, and already seems to have started working on its next devices. While we await the launch of its flagship smartphone, a new rumour throws light on the company's next two smartphones, which could house the yet-unofficial Snapdragon 660 SoC.

With Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 clearly targeting the budget Android segment, it was anticipated that Nokia's next smartphone would be a flagship device. The new report by Nokiapoweruser, however, says that the next smartphone will be a mid-ranger and use Qualcomm's yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 660 chipset. The retail names of these devices are yet to be finalised, but it is believed to be called Nokia 7 and Nokia 8.

Nokiapoweruser reports that one of these handsets will sport a 1080p display while the other will feature a QHD panel. Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 are also tipped to feature a new, metal design with thinner bezels and a redesigned camera housing. Earlier rumours hinted at Nokia 8 being HMD Global's flagship smartphone. The smartphone was tipped to launch with the Snapdragon 835 chipset, metal design and Carl Zeiss-branded optics. The handset was expected to launch in May, but it now seems that the device could come out as Nokia 9, instead.

Nokia is reportedly planning to launch up to seven smartphones this year. With three of its Android smartphones already official, the Finnish company's next launches are likely to target mid-range and flagship price segments.
