Last month, Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, had published the Android Pie 9.0 release timeline for Nokia phones on Twitter. According to the list, the Nokia 6 (2017) was claimed to get the latest Android update by the end of the first quarter as soon as the Dolby implementation was complete. Delivering on its promise, the company has announced that the Android 9 Pie update is now rolling out to the device. The development was announced by Sarvikas on his official Twitter handle.

Nokia 6 proved to be one of the most successful phones in India for the company. HMD Global claimed that that it sold all the phones in less than a minute on its first sale. It also said that Amazon India had received over 1.2 million registrations ahead of its sale. At that time, Nokia had not enrolled in Google’s Android One programme but still, the company promised and timely security and OS updates from Google.

In terms of specifications, the Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch Full HD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 chipset, and comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB local storage. The storage can be expanded up to 128GB via its microSD card slot. From a software point of view, the phone runs stock Android. The phone initially came with Android Nougat running out-of-the-box, and the company had later released the Android Oreo update.

In the camera department, the Nokia 6 gets a 16MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus, f/2.0 aperture and dual tone flash. It also has an 8MP selfie shooter with autofocus, f/2.0 aperture and support for an 84-degree-wide field of view. The smartphone has a dual speaker setup with Dolby Atmos and a 3.5mm audio jack. The smartphone houses a 3,000mAh battery and is available in matte black, tempered blue and silver colour options.
