Motorola sold over 10 million smartphones in Q4, 2014, up 118 percent year-on-year.
Lenovo-owned Motorola has sold over 10 million smartphones in the third fiscal quarter, up 118 percent from an year ago. The company reported hat the Moto X (Gen 2) reached 1 million pre-orders in China just one week.
The company did not reveal the actual breakdown of the Motorola handsets sold in last quarter, however Motorola's Moto E, Moto G, Moto X, Moto G (Gen 2), and Moto X (Gen 2) have received tremendous response in various markets. Additionally, Google launched the Motorola-made Nexus 6 is also a part of the 10 million figures.
Lenovo acquired Motorola from Google last year in a $2.91 billion deal. The company announced that the combined sales of Lenovo and Motorola amounted to 6.6 percent global market share, making it the third biggest smartphone maker after Samsung and Apple.
Recently, Motorola China announced that the Moto X (Gen 2) received 1 million pre-orders in just 1 week after its launch. Commenting on Motorola's performance, Yuanqing Yang, chairman and CEO of Lenovo said, "Motorola is already a global strength: for the first time it sold more than 10 million units in the quarter and it is now re-entering the China market."
Last week, Motorola India and Flipkart announced that it has sold over 3 million Moto devices in the last 10 months including the Moto E, Moto G, Moto X, Moto G (Gen 2), Moto X (Gen 2), and the Moto 360 smartwatch. Motorola which considers India a priority market is planning to set up exclusive customer experience zones in the country.
