Motorola Defy announced – the water, dust and scratch-resistant Android 2.1 smartphone

The Motorola Defy is the latest touchscreen phone announced by Motorola earlier today. The phone has many of the features similar to Milestone 2, but is a lower-spec and a pure touchscreen version.

The phone has an impressive 3.7-inch touchscreen, supporting aaresolution of 854 x 480 pixels, which is claimed to be completely scratch-proof. The phone comes with Android 2.1 with Motoblur. The phone also provides Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, as well as Swype as standard for quick and easy text input. The 5MP rear camera with flash acts as a pretty good addition to the phone.

The phone has a rubberised shell with locking mechanism to keep the back in place during underwater exploits. Apart from being able to withstand a bit of water, the phone is also resistant to dust, sand and those keys in your pocket.

The Defy also comes with Moto’s Crystal Talk Plus, a function that allows it to kill background noise using two microphones. The built-in browser comes equipped with Flash Lite for a slightly enhanced web browsing experience, although it lacks the full Flash 10.1 that its twin, the Milestone 2, offers.

The Motorola Defy is set to be released in the fourth quarter (around October or later) of this year, so all the accident-prone phone fans should be able to add this on their Christmas wishlists. The phone will be available in white and black colors. Other details regarding its pricing or network tie-ins are not out yet, but we will make sure to keep you up-to-date about this awesome phone.
