The Moto Z2 Play is expected to offer a thinner design and a smaller battery, along with support for MotoMods accessories

Motorola has confirmed that its next smartphone dubbed "next bold phone" will launch on June 1. The Canadian entity of Motorola has confirmed the upcoming launch via Twitter and it is likely that we will finally see the often leaked Moto Z2 series. A recently leaked roadmap revealed Motorola plans to launch multiple smartphones in its 'c', 'e', 'g', 'x' and 'z' series this year. While the company has made the Moto G5 and Moto C series official, the next announcement could be related to either the Moto E4 or Moto Z2 series. A recently leaked retail package of the alleged Moto Z2 Play suggested that the handset will become official on June 1.

With the Moto Z series, Motorola has almost nailed the idea of the modular smartphone after LG and Google dropped their own modular smartphone plans. The company announced the original Moto Z series at Tech World in June last year and it now seems that Lenovo owned Motorola is ready to show off the second generation Z series. The 2017 Moto Z series is expected to include the Moto Z2, Moto Z2 Play and Moto Z2 Force. The company is reportedly calling the series as 'Unlimited Capabilities' with support for different MotoMod accessories. While there aren't many details about the Moto Z2 in particular, most rumours suggest the handset will launch with the Snapdragon 835 platform.

Moto Z2 Play, the mid-range modular smartphone, has leaked multiple times in the past and has also received TENAA certification confirming specifications. The handset with model number XT1710-08 is expected to feature a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display and will be powered by the Snapdragon 626 platform, coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It is also rumoured to switch to the 12MP dual-pixel autofocus rear camera found on the Moto G5 Plus, while retaining the 5MP front camera found on last year's model. The biggest change here is the use of a smaller 3000mAh battery and the company surprisingly confirmed that the smartphone will feature a 3000mAh battery as opposed to 3510mAh battery found on the Moto Z Play.

The Moto Z2 Play is said to be 5.99mm thick. The Moto Z2 Force, on the other hand, is expected to feature a shattershield display and support 1Gbps LTE chipset. At this point, we can expect Motorola to showcase the second-generation Moto Z smartphones at its event on June 1.
