Highlights:
- LG may launch the LG G8 on February 24.
- It is reported to feature a Snapdragon 855 chipset.
- May sport a waterdrop notch.
Last week, press renders and a 360-degree video of the LG G8 were leaked, and a report said that the South Korean tech giant could launch the phone at the upcoming MWC in Barcelona. Well, now we have a possible launch date for the device – February 24. ETnews reports that the smartphone is expected to run on the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.
A Google translation of the report on the news platform says that the LG G8 will be launched at 10AM (Barcelona time) — a day before the official opening of MWC — on February 24. This means that the launch will happen at 6.30AM IST. We advise our readers to wait for the official confirmation on the launch date and time. This year, MWC is scheduled to start from February 25 and run till February 28.
The report also notes that a day after the unveiling of the LG G8, Head of MC / HE Business Division of LG, will hold a meeting on LG's smartphone business strategy. As far as the features are concerned, the LG G8 is said to be equipped with a rear triple camera setup with 3D photography capabilities and may have a waterdrop notch. It is reported to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 SoC.
The press renders show that there is a fingerprint scanner on the back with LG branding at the bottom. On the front, two selfie shooters are seen, which could be the same as the cameras found on the V40 ThinQ. The phone may feature a USB Type-C port, loudspeaker grille, a 3.5mm audio socket and the antenna bands at the bottom edge. The power button and SIM tray could rest on the right side of the phone, while the volume buttons and a dedicated button to summon the Google Assistant are seen on the left in the renders.
LG G8 is also rumoured to be equipped with ‘sound on display’ speakers that would be similar to an under-display cantilever-conduction speaker. Citing a source, OnLeaks said that the phone will have this technology, which uses vibration and bone conduction to create sound directly from the display making the speaker redundant. Unveiling the phone before the event is not unusual. Samsung is also holding an event in San Francisco on February 20 where it is expected to ‘unpack’ the next generation of S-Series devices as well as the foldable phone. Samsung will also have a presence at MWC.
