Lava Iris X1 with Android KitKat, 8MP camera coming soon, to be priced under 8k

Lava Iris X1 will be one of the few smartphones to run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. Lava's new smartphone will be priced under Rs. 8,000.

Lava Mobiles is set to launch a new low-cost Android 4.4.2 KitKat-based smartphone, called the Iris X1. The company has already started teasing the smartphone, which will be priced “under Rs. 8,000”.

Lava hasn’t revealed full specifications of the forthcoming smartphone. But, it confirms the Lava Iris X1 features a 4.5-inch display and an 8MP camera. “To add to it, Lava is going to price it aggressively under Rs 8k. Riding on the success of its Iris Pro series, Lava is really upbeat about this offering,” says Lava in a statement.

Without revealing a specific release date, Lava says it “plans to launch the phone in the next few days”.

Lava has been focussing on the budget segment with its Iris series of smartphones. Recently, the company launched the Iris 406Q, featuring 4-inch IPS display, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon Processor, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box (upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat. The 406Q is priced at Rs. 7,499.

Currently a very few smartphones such as Nexus 5, Moto X, Moto G and Karbonn Titanium Hexa are running KitKat out of the box. However, Lava’s new smartphone will be competing against a range of budget smartphones, especially the Motorola’s Moto E, which is also expected to be priced below Rs. 10,000.
