It seems the iPhone 4 has gone out of the frying pan into the fire! Yes, as if its signal reception troubles weren’t enough, a report has come in of an iPhone 4 that got fried when charged using a standard Apple USB cable, 30-pin dock connector, and a computer. The cable, the USB port, and the user’s hand (when he picked up the phone and touched the very hot metal bezel) were all burnt to varying degrees.

The reason for the conflagration was ascertained as a defective USB port on the phone, and not user error. AT&T promised to exchange the device for a new one. Let’s just hope that this is a one-off, and not something to do with the hardware design or components of the iPhone 4, otherwise even Apple wouldn’t be able to live this down.
