Intex aims for Rs. 1800cr revenue from smartphone business

Intex, which posted Rs. 425 crore revenue last fiscal, is expecting an ambitious Rs. 1800 crore revenue this year.

Domestic player Intex has shown a tremendous growth of 400 percent quarter on quarter in the last fiscal. The company is now targeting 1800 cr revenue this year. Intex has a portfolio of 35 feature phones, 12 smartphones and three tablets in India. 

Intex Technologies Senior General Manager Sanjay Kalirona stated, “The target may be big but we have seen 400 per cent growth quarter on quarter in terms of sales. Earlier, we were targeting Rs 1,200 crore in revenues for this fiscal, but now we have revised it to Rs 1,800 crore.” He added that the company is planning to add eight more smartphones in the price range of Rs 4,000- Rs 20,000 this year. 

Kalirona said that the company had to hike the prices by five per cent last month due to the rupee depreciation. He added, “The situation continues to be a concern. We are constantly monitoring it. We had no option but to pass on the burden to the consumers (last month). If things continue like this, maybe we will have to hike (price)”. 

Intex Director Marketing (Mobile phones) Keshav Bansal stated that company now holds six per cent of the market share in the Indian mobile phone market and is looking to expand aggressively. He added that Intex has sold 1.5 lakh smartphones last month and is aiming to double the number. The company expects to sell 20 lakh smartphones this year. 

Intex had recently launched its flagship smartphone the Intex Aqua i7. The phone boasts of a 5 inch display, 1.5GHz quad core processor and runs on Android Jelly Bean OS. It supports Dual SIM, 32GB internal memory and 2GB RAM for faster processing. 

The device has a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera for video calling. It has a 2000mAh battery that according to the company delivers 7 hours of talk time and standby time of 220 hrs. The phone has a look away feature that pauses the video on the phone, when the user looks away. Intex has loaded the mobile phone with popular apps like Hungama, Matrabhasa and much more. Priced at Rs. 21,900, the Intex Aqua i7 is the most expensive phone by Intex so far.
